As with many ranch-style homes of the mid 20th century the layout of this home was pretty confining. During the initial walk through with the client, we assessed the potential for opening up the floor plan in order to unify the kitchen and main living space. Another goal was to bring more natural light into the space, and all within budgetary constraints. This was accomplished by transferring loads onto beams, removing interior walls, and adding full-width sliding glass doors.
Finish treatments to exposed beams were made to go along with the updated lighting. Installation of engineered hardwoods on both the floors and accent walls helped create cleaner yet cozy space. Though ranch homes are known and desired for their simplistic and unpretentious nature, we set out to create a much more modern and relaxing feel to this once cramped, dimly lit space. All parties seem to agree, mission accomplished.
